Motivation can be fleeting. A moment of excitement can easily turn into a
moment of dullness. When something bad happens, your positive feelings
can immediately dissipate.
Watching inspirational lectures and videos can help you maintain your levels
of excitement. TED Talks, for example, feature visionary leaders who can
inspire and motivate you. If you are feeling low, you can go to YouTube to
watch these videos. Select topics that you like and watch them. After 20
minutes, you will surely feel more energized.
Inspirational videos like these do not only give you motivation. They also
provide you with valuable insights and improve the way you see the world.
Then again, to prevent yourself from procrastinating, you should limit
yourself to just one video per break.
Add Another Item On Your Bucket
List
Life is short, which is why you have to make the most of it. Live your life to
the fullest by identifying goals and trying to achieve all of them. You can
create a bucket list and include as many goals as you want, no matter how
simple or grand they are. Each week, you should add another item on your
list. Create a plan on how you can achieve the goals you put on this list.
If you do not know what you should put on your bucket list, you can ask
yourself questions. Find out what you want to become, what you want to
have, what you want to do, where you want to go, and what you want to see.
Take a cue from your answers to start drafting your bucket list.
Add Another Item To Your Soon List
The Soon List is like the Bucket List, but with a different time frame. Most
people hesitate creating a bucket list because they feel that they do not have
enough time to accomplish all their goals. They also tend to feel
overwhelmed and pressured by the idea of having to accomplish major
milestones. If you feel the same way, you can create a Soon List instead.
In this list, you should include everything you want to do in the near future,
specifically within the next three months. Since the time frame is short, you
can narrow down your goals and only focus on short-term plans. There is no
pressure involved, so you can just have fun. When the three months are up,
you can create another Soon List.
Do Something New
Having a routine can make you feel comfortable. The familiarity of the
activities can make you relaxed. You already know what is going to happen.
Then again, nothing grows from your comfort zone. So, if you want to
achieve growth, you have to do something new.
You can change your daily routine, try an exotic dish, introduce yourself to a
stranger, take a different route going to work or home, and listen to a
different genre of music. You can also wear something in bright colors if you
often wear dark hues or try a different hairstyle and hair color. Doing
something new gives you a break from your routine and prevents your mind
from becoming stale.
Indulge In A Distraction
Distractions can hinder your progress. When you give in to distractions, you
will not be productive. For example, if you keep browsing your Facebook
news feed while at work, you will not get anything done.
Then again, distractions are not always a bad thing. Sometimes, indulging in
a distraction can actually be productive. If all you do is work, study, and try
to reach your goals, you can experience burnout. Thus, you should allow
yourself to indulge in a distraction once in a while.
Take a break after long hours of working or studying. Play a video game,
watch a TV show, or go to the mall. You can also go to a spa or get your hair
done. If you have not had a day off in months, go on vacation for a week.
Whatever you do, however, make sure that you do not overdo it. After a few
hours or days of relaxation, you have to regain your focus and work towards
achieving your goals.
Go Bird Watching
There are about 10,000 bird species and very few people who have seen even
half of them. If you want to relax and be with nature, bird watching is an
excellent activity. It is fun, safe, peaceful, and educational. It is actually
believed that this activity is an expression of male hunting instincts. Others
connect it to the tendency of males to systematize.
Nonetheless, bird watching is a good way to enjoy nature. You can go on a
tour with other people who enjoy this activity. You can share your knowledge
with bird trivia and gain insight from them as well.
