Declutter Your Computer
Create An Interruption-Free
Environment
As you know, distractions can negatively affect your productivity. This is
why you need to free your environment from them. Aside from using
websites and applications, you can also create mini-stacks that would require
your attention.
Set aside half an hour to start a simple routine in which you determine the
distractions that you have. Then, you need to create a plan on how to get rid
of them. You should also finish doing a five-minute habit before you do an
important task.
Ideally, you should use this five-minute habit as a bridge that connects your
first MIT and your routine. You can put your mobile phone on silent mode
and turn off the wireless router. You can also wear headphones to prevent
other people from bothering you as you work.
If you are still experiencing difficulty doing high priority tasks, you may have
to be more aggressive with your approach. Do your best to control the
interruptions that prevent you from being productive.
Declutter Your Computer
It can be hard to focus when your surroundings are messy and chaotic. You
may also waste time looking for items that are buried under piles of paper
and other things. This is why it is important to clear your work area every
day.
Then again, your immediate environment is not the only one that needs
decluttering. If you want to be more productive, you should also declutter
your computer. Digital clutter can be just as distracting as physical clutter.
The clutter on your computer can remind you constantly of the things that
you have to do. Thus, you have to either delete them or put them in their
respective folders.
Play Music To Improve Your Focus
Scientific studies have proven that music and sounds can improve your focus
or concentration. Sounds of nature, white noise, and calming music are
beneficial to your well-being. They can help you relax as well as remain
focused.
So, if your nature of work requires you to remain focused, you must consider
playing music during your work hours. This way, you can give your full
attention to your work.
You can use your music player to play instrumental or classical music, since
they are the most ideal sounds for improving concentration. You can also
download an application that lets you combine ambient sounds and music, as
well as plays simulated background noises. Your productivity will surely
improve when you improve your focus.
Have An Accountability Partner
If you are solely accountable for youself, your odds of procrastinating are
high. This is why you need to have an accountability partner who can help
you stay updated on your tasks.
Your accountability partner can send you messages via email, instant
messenger, or text. You can also have a phone call as well as communicate
via Viber or Skype. However, if you cannot find an accountability partner,
you can use applications such as Coach.me. It combines habit-building
interfaces with social aspects and the members give encouragement to one
another as they reach milestones.
Give Yourself Rewards
Each time you accomplish a goal, do not hesitate to give yourself a reward.
You can treat yourself to a spa, movie, or dinner. Rewards are ideal for
maintaining motivation levels and replenishing depleted concentration levels.
People generally work better and faster when they have something to look
forward to.
Hence, for every major task that you finish, you should give yourself a
reward. You can give yourself small rewards throughout the day or
something bigger and more expensive at the end of every week.
Track The Time Of Your Activities
There must have been a time in your life when you knew that you have
worked hard and yet you still felt like you have not accomplished anything.
Well, this might have happened because you overestimated the time you
spent on certain tasks. At the same time, you may also have underestimated
the time you spent on unhelpful activities such as gossiping, browsing social
media, and playing video games.
Do not worry because you can still make things better by tracking your time.
When you track your time, you are able to gain a more realistic perspective
on the things that you accomplish. You are also able to identify the activities
that waste your time and energy, as well as where most of your time goes.
You can use an application or a software program to track your time.
RescueTime, for example, can track how much time you spend on certain
websites. Likewise, aTimeLogger can help you create a bucket list for every
area of you job and start/stop your timer when you have to work on a
particular task.
